Overview
ASTM A351 CF8M is a cast austenitic stainless steel commonly used for pressure-containing parts in corrosive and high-temperature environments. It is the cast equivalent of wrought AISI 316 stainless steel. The "CF8M" designation indicates the alloy's composition: "C" denotes corrosion resistance, "F" indicates the approximate location on the iron-chromium-nickel (FeCrNi) ternary diagram and indicates the iron, chromium, and nickel content of the alloy, "8" represents the maximum carbon content in the alloy, specifically 0.08%, and "M" designates the inclusion of molybdenum for enhanced pitting resistance.
