Overview
CG3M is an austenitic stainless steel casting alloy defined by ASTM A744/A744M, designed for corrosion-resistant service in severe environments. It is the low-carbon, molybdenum-bearing counterpart of CG8M and the cast equivalent of wrought 316L stainless steel. The reduced carbon content helps prevent intergranular corrosion, especially in welded structures. With enhanced resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion due to its molybdenum content, CG3M is well suited for applications in chemical processing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, marine environments, and other chloride-bearing or acidic service conditions. It is commonly used for pump and valve components, heat exchanger parts, and process equipment requiring long-term corrosion resistance.
