Overview
CF3M is an austenitic stainless steel casting alloy specified under ASTM A744/A744M, developed for corrosion-resistant applications where enhanced pitting resistance and weldability are essential. It is the low-carbon, molybdenum-alloyed version of CF8M and corresponds to wrought 316L stainless steel. The addition of molybdenum improves resistance to chloride-induced corrosion, while the reduced carbon content (<0.03%) minimizes susceptibility to sensitization and intergranular attack during welding. CF3M is widely used in chemical processing, pharmaceutical equipment, pulp and paper systems, and marine environments where consistent corrosion performance is critical.
