Overview
CF3 is an austenitic stainless steel casting alloy covered by ASTM A743/A743M, primarily used for corrosion-resistant applications where weldability and resistance to intergranular corrosion are important. It is the low-carbon version of CF8 and the cast equivalent of wrought 304L stainless steel. With a composition of approximately 18% chromium and 8% nickel, CF3 provides good general corrosion resistance in oxidizing environments and atmospheric exposure. Its low carbon content (<0.03%) reduces the risk of carbide precipitation during welding, making it suitable for tanks, piping, valve components, and other structures in the food, chemical, and water treatment industries.
