Overview
Grade 5A is a high-alloy duplex stainless steel casting grade specified under ASTM A890/A890M, designed for pressure-containing components exposed to extremely corrosive environments. With elevated levels of chromium, nickel, molybdenum, and nitrogen, Grade 5A provides outstanding resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking. This grade offers superior mechanical strength and is particularly well-suited for demanding applications such as seawater systems, offshore oil and gas platforms, desalination plants, and aggressive chemical processing environments. Grade 5A is selected when extended service life and corrosion performance are critical, especially in environments where standard duplex alloys may not suffice.
