Pattern Making

Alloy Casting has nearly 37 years of experience in the sand casting pattern and tooling industry. Our family owned and operated foundry offers a full range of services to facilitate our clients casting pattern & tooling needs.

We ensure consistent quality when producing pattern equipment. From wood to metal, plastics, and foam, every pattern is created with great pride and precision by highly skilled tradesmen. As an added service, they can repair and modify customer supplied patterns saving costly downtime.

Their highly organized and efficient pattern storage facility includes quick and easy retrieval for future casting production. To ensure immediate access, patterns are individually recorded in a computer library and systematically placed in a special storage facility.

A pattern shop capable of handling all sizes of patterns.

The skill of the pattern maker is the key that determines the effectiveness of the final casting. At Alloy Casting, we establish a close working relationship between our pattern makers and your designers & engineers to ensure defect-free production of a finished casting that meets and exceeds your requirements. With Computer Aided Design, our expert pattern maker will work from your blueprints or CAD files to transform your designs into reality. No design is too complex. This is the most important first step in the production of your final castings.

Our experienced pattern making team utilize a number of materials (wood, plastics and metal), and highly precise CNC technology to construct your patterns and core boxes. Careful consideration is given to constructing a pattern using materials that will meet your needs, now and in the future, maximizing your pattern investment. In some cases, full size mock-ups of the finished castings are made to ensure accurate fit, avoiding delays in the production process.

Alloy Casting produces all of the foundry tooling (patterns and coreboxes) and the CNC (computer numeric controlled) fixtures in our state-of-the-art tool room. Pattern makers design and fabricate the tooling to best match the product criteria and engineering specifications.

Existing patterns and coreboxes? No problem. Our team of experts can usually adapt your company’s existing patterns and coreboxes into compatible foundry tooling, usually with little or no cost to the client.

The process of sand casting requires that a cavity be made in a sand composition into which molten material can be poured to produce a unique part. The cavity in the sand composition is created by using a casting pattern which is designed in collaboration with our trained staff of pattern makers and engineers. Primary tooling includes the production of the casting pattern, typically composed of wood, metal or plastic with the desired specifications of the finished part. Secondary tooling is needed when the desired part is designed with internal cavities or passageways requiring the insertion of cores into the mold cavity. We has extensive experience with a variety of materials to produce tooling & casting patterns that match our customer requirements.

Alloy Casting may make a casting pattern in mahogany if a smaller quantity is requested or if the design is revised frequently. Alternately, if a larger quantity is requested, and the design is stable, a metal pattern with metal coreboxes would be produced.
