As
part of the 1981 Canada Cup Series, INCO and Hockey Canada commissioned
a duplicate of the Canada Cup trophy. A reputation of prompt
service, total facilities and extensive technical knowledge made
Alloy Casting
Industries Limited the logical choice to provide the cup.
Symbolically,
this impressive trophy was to be cast in pure Canadian Nickel
and following the series will be on display in the Hockey hall
of Fame in Toronto.
The
pattern shop at Alloy casting began the project in mid-July producing
the required patterns as quickly as possible. Since the series
was beginning on September 1st everyone at Alloy
Casting realized the urgency of producing the cup while maintaining
their high quality standards at the same time. This was no
small task because subsequent to producing the cast there were
several additional operations required — plating, polishing
and assembly. A successful casting was produced on the first
pour, the challenge was met and finished cup was ready on August
28.
Since
Alloy Casting is wholly-owned Canadian company it is especially
proud of its contribution to the Canadian hockey heritage.
